Based on the 18th century print Le Diable D'Argent (The Devil of Money). The devil flies over the town, shitting and pissing money over the townspeople who become distracted by its pursuit. In France "Le grande diable d'argent" (the great Devil of money) became a famous motif to characterise the rich aristocracy during the French Revolution and after. Many similar prints circulated in France depicting the devil as spreading money bags between people of all trades. The association between the rich and the Devil they believed was obvious: wealth and greed came at a diabolical price. Their political motive was to delegitimise the existing power-base and mobilise the people against them. In the print we also see the Artist shooting the devil through the heart and vanquishing it.
